DISCLAIMER: This chocolate ice cream recipe uses dairy products, if you would like a DF option, I would replace the cream with a dairy-free cream such as soy thickened cream and add about 5 grams more sugar.

Decadent Chocolate Ice Cream: Easy Homemade Recipe

Hello! I recently shared my “Easy Mango Sorbet Recipe to Try at Home” on Eats with Ash, and I JUST made the most decadent chocolate ice cream in my ice cream maker. So, I am sharing the recipe. I’m really happy with how the texture turned out, it was soft and creamy and really felt like an ice cream you get at a fancy ice cream shop. Also, it’s Luke approved so we KNOW it’s DELICIOUS!!

This recipe makes 2 Litres of chocolate ice cream. Stores up to 1 week in an airtight container in the freezer.

Ingredients/What You Will Need

  • Ice cream maker (put the bowl in the freezer for at least 12 hours prior to making)
  • 1 x saucepan
  • Electric whisk to whisk the cream
  • 150 grams of dark cooking chocolate buttons/chips (I used Nestle’s Dark Cooking Chocolate Chips)
  • 750 mL of full-fat cream (or thickened/heavy cream)
  • 130 grams of castor sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Method

  1. Gently warm-up 125 mL of cream with the sugar in a saucepan over low-medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Take cream and sugar off heat, pour in chocolate. Stir until melted and combined. Add in salt and cinnamon.
  3. Whisk the rest of the cream together before it gets to soft peaks (you want it so that it’s still pour-able). Once it reaches this consistency, mix all ingredients together.
  4. Place in fridge for 30 minutes to cool down.
  5. Set timer on ice cream maker for 20 minutes, pour mixture in and let it churn.
  6. Put mixture into airtight container and freeze for 1-2 hours for a firm texture. You can eat it after the churning BUT I froze mine for longer to get that authentic ice cream feel.
  7. Enjoy!

Pro Tip: Before churning, add in chocolate chunks or crushed biscuits to change the flavour up a bit. The world is your oyster.

Serving Suggestion: Serve in a fancy glass bowl (see below) with chocolate sauce OR melt some chocolate to drizzle on top. I also added some caramilk chocolate buttons to one serve and that was delish!
