Everything We Ate in Vancouver, Canada: Food Diary

Granville Island – Stuart’s Bakery & a panna cotta ice cream. I wish we were hungrier when we came here because we didn’t actually get that much to eat, and I want to go back to try more! We had a cream cheese danish and a chocolate chip cookie + some ice cream. The panna cotta ice cream had a little bit of a coffee flavour to it.
Italian Kitchen – Definitely my favourite restaurant we tried in Vancouver. The service was incredible; we had so much to eat, and they even gave us 2 free pieces of focaccia – that’s unheard of here. The zeppole donuts were the best donuts I’ve ever eaten in my life.
Steamworks Brewpub – This was the last restaurant we ate at with my pen pal before we said our goodbyes, and I really enjoyed my burger and the chocolate mousse from here. It’s good if you’re looking for a casual pub meal that’s a little bit elevated.

Japadog – Honestly, what the f*ck? I don’t really know how I feel about this fusion. I was excited for this, but I don’t think it really did it for me, and I usually enjoy all the weird, crazy bold flavours. I did like the takoyaki balls – I just wanted more of a kick from the wasabi. I think I do need to give this place a second chance.
No Bad Days – This was a GREAT place for brunch; the servings weren’t too big for me, and I really enjoyed the health vibe it had. Plus, they messaged me on Instagram to say thank you for coming, so I thought that was really nice!
Breka Bakery – Luke and I went here twice, and I really enjoyed the food. I had a pretzel croissant thing, a donut, and the second time Luke got a cheese toastie. Everything was very yummy; it’s just a shame that it gets SO busy.
Le Petit Belge – Great food but weird service. I loved my waffles. I was surprised that we had to order at the counter here, and then when there was a bigger group, they got table service. Made me feel a bit weird.
Bellaggio Cafe – We ended up going here because the server outside was just so welcoming I was drawn in, and the food was DELISH! Luke had this great sandwich. SOOOOO good.

Richmond Night Market – I was disappointed in the amount of AI slop used here; it made me very sad. We had a pulled pork toastie, spanakopita, some ice cream, and a lemonade. I believe that 2026 is the last year that this market will be on.
Paul – A lovely little patisserie/cafe. I enjoyed my iced strawberry matcha, but we were a bit disappointed in the cakes.
Le Belisse Cafe – A very cute pastry shop! Unfortunately, I have to say that I have had better cakes like this from elsewhere.
The Spud Shack Fry Co. New Westminster – We had poutine here, and I liked it, but I’m not a big gravy fan, so I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to get poutine again (sorry Canada, please don’t come for me). I am obsessed with your maple syrup, though.

Gerard Lounge – This was a hidden cocktail bar behind the restaurant at one of the hotels we stayed at, and the bartender was kinda mean to me when I didn’t get the right table he pointed at, and then rolled his eyes at me. I also felt really weird when I ordered an Old Fashioned whiskey drink, and they served it to Luke because the waitress was told, “Oh, they said it was for the gentlemen,” so that made me feel SUPER weird and self-conscious. However, they did bring us a tasting plate of desserts after we paid our tab, so that’s nice. Drinks were tiny – cocktails in Aus and NZ are WAY bigger, and the vibes here are more chill. Safe to say I prefer a cocktail bar in my home lands. I wouldn’t go back to Gerard Lounge, and I am sad I missed out on the tiki bar while we were there.
Ballyhoo Public House – Now, this is a pub I can get behind. We happened to go at happy hour, so staff were a bit busy and a little forgetful but really kind. I also enjoyed that their house wines were NZ wines!!! The food and drinks were great and super cheap; where else are you going to get a $6 glass of wine? Oh, and this is where I got asked if I was British (and I don’t think I talk in a British accent, so that was strange; I wasn’t sure if I should be offended or not haha). Anyway, the mozzarella sticks here are on point; you should try them sometime!
Made by Mister – I was surprised to see the staff not using gloves or glasses when using the liquid nitrogen here, but the ice cream was delicious, expensive but delicious. It was like a chocolate Oreo cookies and cream ice cream and big enough to share with Luke.
Mello – Great donuts! Great iced chocolate. We went here twice; it was that good!

Some other spots we also tried were: Pajo’s Fish and Chips, The Village Burgery, Steveston, Trees, and obviously Tim Hortons + Starbucks. Vancouver is definitely a foodie’s dream! I loved it. Thank you for reading! Let me know if you’ve been to any of these places.
