Melbourne Eats: Convoy, Moonee Ponds Review
Hello! Welcome back to another Melbourne Eats blog on Eats With Ash! If you’d like to check out some other ones, you can do so via the “Melbourne Eats” category. In today’s blog, we’re reviewing the cafe “Convoy” located in Moonee Ponds, Melbourne. And yep, another cafe that I’m going to be bias towards because it’s always so lovely here. My Review
A lovely dog-friendly cafe in the heart of Moonee Ponds right next to Queens Park, so it’s perfect to grab a bite to eat then go for a leisurely walk afterwards. Luke and I have been here a few times and we were worried about going on a Monday morning around 9 AM because of how busy it gets in the weekend, but we found that this was the perfect time to go. We took a seat and a waiter brought out menus and water for us straight away, then Benji got all the pets. It was a nice day so we sat outside with Benji in the sunshine. Luke got a basic brunch meal with a long black and poached eggs on toast, but the poached eggs here are always perfect. AND, if you ever get a chance to go here you MUST try the breakfast potatoes. They are seasoned like salt and vinegar chippies and omg, they are better than a hash brown. SUPER SUPER crunchy. I think Benji got a cheeky bite too.
I’ve been craving sweet stuff lately, so I went for the cinnamon scroll pancakes, which were made from sweet potatoes (kumara for my kiwi folks), so they were quite dense, but I don’t mean dense in a bad way. The pancakes had like a gingerbread kind of texture to them, they were really nice, just really filling. They also had some cream cheese and orange topping, which was okay – it kinda reminded me of a carrot cake a little bit. I think I would have preferred some sort of mascarpone & citrus dressing. There was also a lot of brown sugar on top. I also got a mango smoothie, which is always a great smoothie but I was sad that they changed the recipe for it and put coconut flakes on top instead of cocoa nibs. I think they change their menu seasonally as well. The mango smoothie is always so refreshing.
Convoy also tends to lean more towards savoury/healthy dishes but there’s definitely something for everyone with GF, V/VG options.
