Hello! I’ve been thinking about that silly monkey Curious George for a while now, and every time I think about that cartoon, I have this idea for an ice cream – a banana choc chip ice cream. I couldn’t find anything like it out there on the internet, SO I thought I’d make it myself. The closest recipes I could find were Spiced Banana Ice Cream AND Curious George Ice Cream & DIY Edible Eyes. Neither of them were quite right for what I was thinking of, so I’ve opted for something more yellow! Sidenote: Isn’t it weird that Curious George doesn’t have a tail, and that’s become a Mandela Effect?

If you don’t know who Curious George is, he’s a fictional monkey (in the form of a cartoon) who is in lots of children’s picture books, and many TV shows and movies have been based on him. He was created by Margret Rey and Hans Augusto Rey.

FYI: This recipe contains dairy/lactose.

Makes 2L of ice cream.

Ingredients/What You Will Need

  • Ice Cream Maker (put the ice cream maker bowl in the freezer over night before making)
  • Blender of some kind. We have a nutri-bullet so that’s what I used
  • 1 x metal bowl and 1 x metal whisk (chilled in the fridge for 10 mins prior to making)
  • 1 x air tight container (2L)
  • 3 x frozen bananas
  • 600mL of thickened cream (also known as heavy cream)
  • 1 cup of milk (I used skim but you can use full cream)
  • 1 cup castor sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp yellow food colouring
  • 200 grams of dark chocolate chips
  • Optional: Banana Flavouring (I didn’t use it this time but I think it would enhance the banana flavour)

Method

  1. Prior to making, freeze your ice cream maker bowl in the freezer overnight
  2. Put your whisk and metal bowl in the fridge for 10 minutes
  3. Blitz x 3 frozen bananas in a blender until smooth. Set aside
  4. Whisk castor sugar into thickened cream until dissolved. Add vanilla.
  5. Add in milk, banana, salt, and yellow food colouring. Mix until desired colour (if using extra banana flavouring, add it in here)
  6. Pour into ice cream maker and churn for 20 minutes
  7. Once churned, add in 200 grams of dark chocolate chips, churn for another 10 minutes
  8. Pour into air tight container and freeze for 2-3 hours
  9. Enjoy

Pro Tip: If you are stuck on time, churn ice cream for an extra 5 minutes and serve immediately.
