This recipe contains dairy. If you are lactose or dairy intolerant, I would advise against making this specific recipe. If you’d like a sorbet option, you can check out my mango sorbet recipe “here“.
This particular cookies and cream ice cream recipe makes about 2 L of ice cream and will store in the freezer in an airtight container for about 1-2 weeks (if you can last that long without eating it!)
Ingredients/What You Will Need
- Ice Cream Maker – I recommend either the Ninja CREAMI OR the Breville Smart Scoop (these are affiliate links). Make sure you put your ice cream bowl in the freezer 12 hours prior to making.
- 1 x airtight container
- 1 metal bowl
- 1 metal hand whisk
- 1 cup of milk (I used skim but it might be better with full cream milk)
- 500 mL of thickened cream (heavy cream)
- 3/4 cup of white sugar
- 2 tsp of vanilla
- 1/2 tsp salt (optional)
- 1 x packet of oreos (and maybe a 2nd pack if you want to decorate)
Method
- Put your metal bowl and whisk in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes before making this recipe so that everything is super super cold for churning.
- Crush up your oreos – I do this by placing them into a ziplock bag and smashing with a rolling pin until they’re crushed. Set aside.
- In a metal bowl, combine milk and sugar with a whisk until dissolved. Once dissolved, mix in the cream, vanilla, and salt.
- Add mixture to your ice cream maker, churn for about 20 minutes (or until thick and creamy).
- Once the mixture has churned for 20 minutes, add in your oreos and churn for another 5-10 minutes (I did about 5 minutes).
- With a spatula, place mixture into airtight container, then crush up some more oreos on top and place in freezer for 2-3 hours (or until set).
- Enjoy!
Pro Tip: You don’t need to whip the cream before churning, as churning does all that for you. If you whip the cream for this recipe, it will end up with a more mousse-like texture.
Serving Suggestion: Add chocolate sauce and crush up more oreos before eating. YUM!
