Easter Cadbury Caramilk Hot Cross Buns Review

Easter Cadbury Caramilk Hot Cross Buns Review
Hello! Welcome to my very second post on this blog. I’m slowly getting the hang of themes, what I can customise, and what I’m limited to, so please bear with me as I still work everything out. In this blog, we’re going to review the Easter Cadbury Caramilk Hot Cross Buns – something that I am so happy I got to try (spoiler alert, they are delish!)
A Hot Cross Bun is a spiced bun that is traditionally eaten on Good Friday in countries such as New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Canada, the USA, and a few more. It is the marking of the end of “Lent” (the season of prayer and fasting before Easter). I’m not religious so I won’t go into too much more detail about that specifically.
Cadbury Caramilk Hot Cross Buns are $5.50 AUD from Woolworths Australia (it also looks like you can get them from Woolies in NZ too but they’re much more expensive – $8NZD). Woolies is slang for Woolworths – I wonder if you can add footnotes to WordPress blog posts.
I don’t know whether or not you can get these specific hot cross buns in countries other than Australia and New Zealand but if you have seen them elsewhere, please let us know in the comments below (or if you’ve seen something similar).
Novelty Flavours
Australia has some weird a$$ flavours when it comes to novelty hot cross buns including: Iced Vovo, Pizza Shapes, Vegemite and Cheese, Fairy Bread, and Biscoff. So I think Caramilk is less on the weird side, but hey, that’s just my opinion.
Now, I thought these were new to 2025, but apparently they’ve been around since 2021 – fun fact of the day!

I think I’m gonna have a bit of a bias reviewing these hot cross buns because I absolutely LOVE caramilk chocolate – yes I think it’s better than caramello, and I love that it tastes like condensed milk. So, I had high hopes for these. I don’t usually go for a traditional hot cross bun, it’s gotta be some sort of chocolate one. I’m not usually a sultana kinda gal.
Anyway, I had two of these for breakfast yesterday morning and let me tell you they were DELICIOUS. It was everything I wanted in a hot cross bun, it toasted well in the oven, I could taste the caramilk flavour but it wasn’t too overpowering and they didn’t hurt my stomach at all. And I’m a big texture person too and there was no issue with that for me. The flavour profile was spot on and tasting the caramilk chunks was a great experience, the buns even stayed light when toasted which isn’t something we see on the regular. Not much to report aroma wise, just smelt like a hot cross bun – I think if it had milk or dark chocolate in it, the smell would be more intense when toasting it in the oven.
I say go out and get your hands on some of these before they’re all sold out. I also tried the biscoff hot cross buns that are going viral and honestly, I think the caramilk ones are WAY better. I might do a review of the biscoff on here, but there’s not heaps to report but I do like how the biscoff ones are vegan.
Pro Tip: You can freeze hot cross buns if you buy them earlier than needed OR try these hot cross buns with vanilla ice cream for a decadent dessert experience.
I give these a 5/5. Perfection.
What’s your favourite flavour of hot cross bun? Let me know in the comments below.
Much love,
Ash
