My Review
This is a cafe that we’ve been wanting to try for a while now, but every Saturday morning we’ve driven past and it’s just been way too packed for my liking. However, we had some time during a lunch break last Friday and decided to try it out. We weren’t sure if it was dog-friendly, but it turns out there’s a big courtyard area out the back, so Benji was welcome. When we first walked in, I wasn’t sure if dogs were allowed, but I noticed all the water bowls on the floor and was like, “well, they must be”. It was a little bit annoying having to walk through past the kitchen with a dog to get to the courtyard, but we made it. Benji was very well-behaved – although he was looking for sticks, and I think he was sad we didn’t ask if they had puppachinos (dw, he got a home-made one when we got home).
Luke got his coffee before I got my drink (mine didn’t come until after our food had come out, which was annoying), but they had given us water at least. The food was incredible, my French Toast was made with brioche, and I thought all the flavours complemented each other really well (berries, mascarpone, brioche, coulis). Luke had a take on Eggs Benedict – the Big Ben, and I made him order some chorizo as I was craving it and didn’t want to put it on my sweet plate. He enjoyed it, but he said it would have been better on sourdough rather than brioche toast. I LOVED the chorizo. As for the drinks, the coffee was nice, but my iced chocolate tasted more like Milo than chocolate lol – no hate, but I just thought it would have been more milkshake-like and chocolatey rather than malty (if that makes sense). I enjoyed the food and will definitely go back here, but I think next time I’ll order an easier drink to make. I rate Jack & Daisy a 7.5/10.
Some other notes: they got a bit busy inside, so it felt longer to get our meals, some of the staff wanted to pet Benji, and others weren’t so keen on him (not that that’s an issue; some people just don’t like dogs), the food was better than the drinks, the courtyard tables were very long so in busy periods you probably have to sit next to other people, and Luke had finished his coffee before his meal had come out and they didn’t offer another one – I like when cafes offer you another drink (like upselling you to buy more).
