Francis Winifred Review: Great Brunch in Melbourne’s North

Hello! Welcome back to another Melbourne Eats blog on Eats With Ash! If you’d like to check out some other ones, you can do so via the “Melbourne Eats” category. Today, Luke and I had lunch at one of our favourite local cafes, Francis Winifred. We always get great coffee here, along with great service and food, and it’s dog-friendly. I don’t really have anything bad to say about this place – it’s great. The only thing is it’s always REALLY busy, even on Mondays, so I would recommend going as early as possible if you want to get there for breakfast. I always judge if a place is good based on how busy it is, and if it’s always busy, then you know it’s good.

My Review

As we had just taken Benji to the park, we brought him with us to the cafe for lunch. He was SUPER well behaved, just wanted to chill and say hi to anyone that walked past us. We did have to sit outside (well, that’s a given with a dog at a cafe), and it was a bit chilly – that’s on us, though. I have had the strawberry hotcakes a couple of times now, and I really like them; it’s kinda like a pancake meets a fancy sponge cake. They are super filling, and it makes me long for a hot summer day with all the berries and fruit that were on the plate. Also, it has ice cream, and everyone knows I love ice cream (considering I’ve been learning to make it this year). They also have great coffee, so warm and creamy, 10/10 on all their drinks – oh, and I’ve had their iced strawberry matcha a few times, and that is very refreshing. Luke had the chicken tortillas, and they looked like delicious tacos; he enjoyed them immensely. I didn’t get to try them, but they did look like what you’d get at a Mexican restaurant. Great staff, all of them came to pet Benji, and they follow me on Instagram, so it’s a win-win. If you’re ever in this area, I highly recommend checking them out! They have some great food. Oh, and Benji demolished his dog treat (I think it might have been pumpkin).

Apologies that this review is a little shorter than others, but every time we go here, it’s just delicious food and coffee, and you can only use so many adjectives. Maybe I should watch more MasterChef and steal from the food critic’s vocabulary.
