My Honest Review of KitKat Neapolitan Chocolate

Hello! Happy Monday friends!

I’m definitely still learning a lot about WordPress and brainstorming foodie things to put on here. However, I recently tried Nestle’s latest novelty chocolate, KitKat Neapolitan Chocolate Block, and in this blog post, I am here to give you my honest review of said chocolate.

You can get this chocolate block at both Woolies and Coles in Australia. As of writing this post, the block costs $5.00 AUD at Woolies and $7.00 AUD at Coles (160 grams). You can also get a small bar (42 grams) for $1.25 at Coles.

I was very excited when Luke brought this home from the shops because I do love Neapolitan ice cream, it’s nostalgic and makes me feel like a kid again. When I was little, I would always want to get an even amount of all three flavours: chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. I just learned that Neapolitan ice cream was originally the three colours of the Italian flag: red, white, and green with the corresponding flavours originally being cherry, vanilla, and pistachio. Once introduced to places like America, the flavours changed to those that were more popular i.e., chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. I’m an only child but I also just read somewhere that the three flavours was to help picky siblings who couldn’t decide on one flavour for all. Being an only child means you can take your pick, really. But I still got Neapolitan ice cream because come on, what kid doesn’t want three flavours?

My Review

As I opened up this KitKat, it smelt EXACTLY like what Neapolitan ice cream smells like, ya know, kinda like an ice cream cake. Or is that just me? I was excited to see pink chocolate and white chocolate to represent strawberry and vanilla, and it definitely had those flavours. However, I really wish there was a third colour on the block of brown to show all three flavours. Don’t get me wrong, the chocolate was still there, I just felt like I was missing some of the authentic experience. Apparently, I’m not the only one who thought this was odd. Australian Food Blog Delish said it was a bit controversial not having all 3 colours on the block. It just feels like they’re missing a part of the classic flavours.

I’m a HUGE KitKat fan in general and I really miss when they did the KitKat Chunky Cookie Dough bars but I do like the fact that they kept the traditional wafer in the Neapolitan block because it gave it more of an ice cream vibe. This made me think of when I was a little kid and one of the sweet treats we got in summer at my after school programme was an ice cream sandwich, which consisted of two pink wafers and a block of vanilla ice cream inside so it really transcended me back into that time. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out “Tip Top’s Vanilla Slices” and you’ll get what I mean immediately.

I loved the texture, very crunchy. I loved the flavour, and I did eat most of the block (sorry, Luke) but in fairness, KitKat is one of my favourite chocolates. BUT, I was disappointed that we didn’t get all three colours. I don’t know if Nestle originally wanted that or they just did what they thought was right but I think it would have just given it that extra sparkle. It definitely tasted like strawberry, chocolate and vanilla ice cream so I’m going to give this chocolate a solid 8.5/10.

Have you tried this KitKat flavour? Let me know in the comments if you have and your thoughts on it!

And, what’s your favourite chocolate novelty flavour?

I had no idea there were Neapolitan Kit Kats! I love Neapolitan ice cream so I have to see if I can find these and give them a try. Thanks for reviewing those, I know I too will be disappointed with the missing color but as long as the taste is there I think I will be happy.

It definitely tastes like the ice cream so they got that part right! I hope you can find them in your country. I think AUS/NZ Nestle might have different things because a lot of the other novelty KitKats I’ve never seen down under. If you like the ice cream, I definitely think you will like these! Thanks for commenting, Sarah 🙂
